Color Diamonds

Diamonds naturally occur in numerous colors. Colors make the diamonds look vibrant, with an appeal that attracts the human sight. Diamonds appear in pink, brown, orange, black, grey, white, yellow, green

and many other colors. The colorless or white diamond absorbs light and it is not reflected back to the eye, so the color in diamond is absorption and reflection of light.

The reason for the appearance of color in diamonds can be defined as, Nitrogen impurities are one of the basic reasons for the cause of color in diamonds, this gives brown or yellow color to the diamonds. Also the wrapping of diamond crystals during the different stages of growth can cause the diamonds to exhibit pink, red or brown colors. The second reason could be the interstitial impurities or structural defects in the diamonds are responsible for changes in color. Pure diamonds are that are structurally and chemically untainted and are completely transparent.
The Gemological Institute of America developed a diamond grading scale from D-Z. . Diamonds that are in the scale from D-F are considered to be the colorless ones and are very costly. The diamonds that are in the scale G-J are considered as near to colorless ones. These diamonds which are near colorless are a preferable choice of people, as they even are less expensive than the colorless ones. The diamonds in the scale K-M, N-R, S-I are considered to be faint yellow color. The quality of these diamonds is lower and the diamond is sure to be present with the impurities, visible to an untrained eye.
Colored diamonds are an indispensable part of jewelry industry today; they are the hardest known substance known to man. Another class of diamonds is fancy colored diamond. ‘The Hope’ is one fancy colored diamond which is deep grayish blue in color that weighs 45.52 in carats. This diamond has a history behind it and it was owned by many famous people like Louis XIV, Henry Philip Hope, Evalyn Walsh Mc Lean and Harry Winston.
As diamonds come in a variety of colors and no two diamonds are identical in color, shape and size, which makes the selecting and buying procedure a little difficult.
