All About Cut

A diamond's cut - that is, the proportions and symmetry of the facets on the stone's surface - is an important part of determining its sparkle and fire. That's because a diamond's ability to reflect light is so strongly affected by the precision used to cut its facets. A diamond with exquisite color and clarity, for example, may appear less brilliant if it is cut poorly.

How cut is measured:

Judging a diamond's cut is complex, and there are a variety of standards to measure the stones proportions, the quality of its light reflection and its surface quality, including its polish, symmetry, girdle, culet, depth and diameter. Angara has four different grades for its diamond cuts: Ideal, Excellent, Very Good and Good.

Our Excellent grade equals the Ideal cut with its perfect proportions, superb light reflection and highest levels of sparkle and fire. Our Very Good and Good grades reflect most of the light that enters the diamond, offer high levels of sparkle and fire, and are often excellent values with lower prices.

Keep in Mind:

▪ Cut does not refer to a stone's shape. Whether it is round, oval or emerald-shaped, the quality of the stone's cut is equally important.
▪ A stone that is cut to bring out the most brilliance may be smaller than one cut to maximize size.
